I was stationed at TJ from Dec 78-Apr 82 in the 401 CES "Refrigeration Shop." I played music, sung with a group in torrejon, use to spend records at the annex with Joe the Jammer, and Kidd. Wonder does anybody know the whereabouts of Harold Lyons, who was the supervisor of the telephone operators during that time.

Hello everybody! I was at TJ from July 1984 to July 1987 and work in the receiving section of the Supply Squadron. Hoping that somebody remembers me (hard to forget!). Please drop me a line if you do. Also, I was assigned to the flightline when I arrived and then cross trained into Supply in 1985. I met a guy that was an F-16 crew chief at the branch I worked at and we became good friends, he was even at my wedding in 1986. His name is Danny McClain (spelling I'm not entirely sure of). Last I heard from him was when he was leaving TJ and going to New Mexico or Arizona. Any help on this? Thanks all! TJ was the best!

Hi, Dave,

I arrived at TOJ on 4/4/68 and left in February 1970. You and I played on the 625 MASS softball team together. I was a Lt. in the transportation section. I remember Sgt. Clyde Keller and and Sgt. Juno (Juneau?) from Maintenance. Also Lt. Jim Mayer, Sgt. Shinpaugh, Col. Patton, etc. I'm in Tallahassee, Fl now. Would like to hear from you.

Bob Rivers

Dave Agusta Tuesday, 10 June 2014 21:35
Bob,
Sorry for the very late response. I haven't been on the site in awhile. Great memories of my time in the 625th and I remember all the guys you mentioned. I was on Sgt Keller's flight and was friends with Juneau. Unfortunately, Claude Keller passed as did Roland Juneau's wife Sylvia. We had a mutual friend who was in Mainteneance Control, Charlie Thomas. My email is dagusta99@gmail.com and I'm in Colorado now. Hope to hear from you.

You were the best damn guard pound-for-pound that I ever had the pleasure to play behind, Greg. You were the "go-to" man on every short yardage play. I only wish I could have played longer - and that I didn't throw so many interceptions! Sorry 'bout that.

I was stationed at Torrejon AFB June 1962-June 1966, base civil engineering group. Joe Kwiatkowski, was also there. I was at Palomares for the Broken Arrow and at Zaragoza for the closing process.

Charles Casebeer, M.D. Sunday, 14 February 2010 20:42
I was the last medical officer at Zaragoza before the closing in late 1965. Sent PCS to Torrejon and then back to ZAB TDY. I was the medical officer for Camp Wilson also so we have probably met each other. Left TJ August 68 to return to civilian life. Now retired in Montana. Torrejon was THE BEST!!!

Jerry Mazza Sunday, 7 July 2013 01:54
I left Zaragoza to go to Palomares, then PCS to South Dakota in June 1966. When I was at Zaragoza the only officer I can remember was a Lt. short with blond hair. I think he was the only on the base. Spent 3.5 years at Torrejon, 1962-66. It is the best as is M.adrid.

Spent nearly 3.5 years (Jun 80 - Nov 83)at TJ as an INS troop on F4D in the 401 CRS then in the 612 AMU (401 AGS). I left Torrejon whren teh last F4 left for Getafe on a flatbed truck. The F-16's had picked up the missions to ICDI and Aviano and the F4's were quickly being retired worldwide.

I liked Spain so much I brought some back with me. We've been married 26 years. I'm thinking it might last.

Got off of AD in 1986 and joined the CA ANG as a C-130 Nav. I went back to TJ on numerous airlift missions always trying to get to Madrid ASAP for teh food and nightlife.

TJ was my 1st assignment out of Keesler. I loved it. It set the stage for life with my Spanish bride and a great AF career.

Bill Deater Monday, 14 November 2011 14:40
Hi Mark. I have an idea we worked together at TJ. I was in the Instrument/Autopilot shop in CRS from 81-83. My name is Bill Deater. Some of the other guys in the shop were Jeffery Bispham, Lynn Gaehle, John Morrison and Randy Lake. If I remember right, one of my good friends while I was there worked in the INS shop, Dickie Hawkins. We had a lot of great times together. I PCS'd to Alconbury, England from TJ and then finished out my career at Davis-Monthan in Tucson, AZ.

I was assigned to 1989th Comm Sq & worked at NCMO for 2 years & moved to Telephone Exchange until reassignment to McGuire AFB for discharge. This was one of my cherished assignments and have fond memories there. I do not recall your name, but just being a part of the TJN family is a plus.

My father, Steven Moody, was stationed at Torrejon in the late 1960s. He met my mother, Judy Goddard, there, and they were married in Madrid and on the base in the spring of 1969. Her father was a COL or LTCOL Goddard in the AF JAG Corps.

I am trying to find her now--she left not long after I was born, and remarried an Air Force man named Henry Nicholas or Henry Nichols, and I have not seen her for nearly 40 years (I will be 40 this year). If anyone remembers anything about her, and knows where she might be today, please email me at dmoody4424@yahoo.com. I appreciate it.

I arrived at Torrejon on December 29, 1969 right out of admin tech school. As it was yesterday, I remember vividly 39 years ago, getting off the plane on the flight line and experiencing nice warm rain which was a plus coming from extreme cold McGuire AFB.
I was assigned to the 401st Civil Engineering Squadron from December 1969 through June 1973; working first in the orderly room for 1st Sgt Thomas H. Williams; then went to work for TSgt Harold W. Morris; then finally spent my final time with the Fire Department. Some of the wonderful people I remember is Dale Chabot (who taught me how to drink whiskey); Rudy Gallegos and my roommate (Paul Ramirez). Good friends with MSgt at the time Bobby Waldo. In my off duty time; spent alot of time coaching Little League baseball and other youth sports and enjoyed Madrid immensely.
Those 3 1/2 years at Torrejon will always go down as a most wonderful experience; especially made by the wonderful people I had met.

My husband Bubba played on the base team for several years under Coach Willie Jones. If anyone remembers Mike "Byrd" Edwards from the basketball team he has passed away this month Jan '09 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. All who knew him and his wife Betty please say a prayer. Was stationed at TJ from 3 Jan 83 - 6 Jan 86. Was assigned to the 401st AGS as a 462 until the F-16 A's and B's came in, then was transferred to the 613th AMU. Was a load crew chief, expediter, LSC and SLC team member. Lived in the Parque Catluna in TJ for the entire assignment. We had no HOLA or COLA because we were getting 300 pesetas to the dollars. Best overseas assignment I ever had - still talk about it to this day. big grin

I was there at the same time you were - my dad was in ATC in the 1989th. His name was MSGT Kenneth W. Pearson. Ater Spain - we lived in Big Spring TX (Webb AFB), then he went to Utapao Thailand and from there back to Kelly AFB and retired after that. He passed away in 1994. I was eight when we moved to Spain and we lived in Royal Oaks. I have many fond memories of that time. I did locate one person you might remember. He cut some records when he was over there and had a hit in the US prior to being stationed at Torrejon. His name is Joe Bennett and lives in North Carolina, I think. I was surprised to learn that you had left Spain. I think I had learned about that in the late 90s. My last trip to Spain was in 1986 when I was on flight status with the 964 AWACS and we worked an exercise with the 401 and Spanish Air Force and Navy. If you run into Carlos Alcantara while you are in San Antonio, give him my greetings and enjoy a glass of wine together.

Wow this takes me back to the stone age, lol.
I was an A/2c. dont remember the squadron number but it was the motor pool.
I was there before they built the base staying at the general Isamo building in Madrid.
Not sure if I remember the dates but it was about July 1956 to sept 58.
I was assinged to the motor pool as a driver.
I really liked being assinged to Madrid and later got to live on the new base.
One of my all time memories was driving the OD and a LT pilot to his 101 Voodo and watching the take off as the OD had said to him to get it on when he took off.
Let me tell you that Voodo was impresive to say the least.
I hope someone from the 50s errra replys to me.
Heck maybe there all gone, Do you think? lol.
Happy trails to all you fly boys and Gals, Darrell (DEE) Warner

Stationed at TJ from 8/78-2/85. Was in CRS F-4 WCS shop, 613th AMU (briefly), 401 HQs (job Control), then 612th AMU as WCS until I cross trained to "C" shop when they converted to F-16s. Sue and I (divorced now) lived in Daganzo for the 1st 6th months until an opening at the Oaks. We lived in 67B. Love to hear from anyone who knew us or anything about TJ.

Your name sounds familiar. I work at the WCS mock-up during that time frame . Do you remember Abernathy, and Mike Britnell the Camera guy. They call me Fig, short for my last name Figuracion, the only Filipino in the shop. wink

Hi Wayne, Not sure why your name sounds so familiar to me. I was at TJ from 11/79 through 8/82 and worked in the F-4 flight simulators attached to the 401st CRS. Did you know Bill Bassett?

I was at TJ from July 82 to Nov 85, was in 613 OPS and then Wing flight records.
I married Jim Clarke who was in fuels.
We were active in the Rodeo club and spent a lot of time at the NCO club. He had a little boy, Jamie, who went to the base elementry school and was very involved with all the sports especially baseball and soccer.
