I was stationed at Torrejon Air Base from April 1986 to May 1989. I was Medical Administration and worked in the base hospital. I ran the Aeromedical Evacuation Office for half my time and the other have worked in Medical Plans and Readiness. I remember taking great tours out of the rec center. After leaving Torrejon went to RAF Fairford and then RAF Lakenheath. Got off Active duty in 1992 then went into the reserves at March Air Force Base, now called March Air Reserve Base and retired from the reserves in 2003 as a TSgt. I currently live in Chatsworth, CA which is just north of Los Angeles.

Among my mementos from my time at Torrejon in 1970 is a pack of matches from the Pepper Mill. In small print is Claudio Coello, 75.

I had to have been there while clubbing. Does this place sound familiar to anyone else? What was it like, as I've forgotten.

Dirk den Hartog Wednesday, 18 September 2013 05:40
@Dave Stone.

I used to to the the Club 42 down the same street. Few Americans knew about it and I kept it that way. It was where lots of international crowd hung out at.

I'm trying to reconnect with coworkers that worked in the 401st Jet Engine Shop from 1987 through 1991.

Hello I worked in the Comptroller Squadron (finance) from 1984 - 1987 and lived on base, in Daganzo de Arriba and Alcala de Henares. I married my Spanish wife Paqui of 28 years of marriage.

I was stationed at TJ from Oct 78 to Oct 80. I worked in 401 Supply (Allowance and Authorization Section and Demand Processing). My name was Lezlee Love. Then I married Dwight Davis (who worked in POL) and then I was Lezlee Davis. I loved Spain. Lived on Calle De Florencia in Torrejon (across the park from Torre Pista Apartments). I loved going to the Rib House, Botins in Madrid near the Caves, and Rancho Texano Restaurant. Anyone remember me or those places?

Dirk den Hartog Sunday, 8 September 2013 04:22
Loved Rancho Texano. Great filet mignon served on wooden carving board. I was there from 65-68 when it was still cheap.

Never spent much time on base, except to work and sleep. Later on me and buddy met 2 Brit women and all 4 of us shared an apartment in Madrid.

It's nice to find a site devoted tomTAB. I was a dependent at TJ, arrived in July of 69 and left in Dec 75. Graduated from MHS in 1970. My father was SMSgt Rafael Romo assigned to HQ 16th Air Force, then in 1973 he was transferred to Zaragoza for 3 years. While I was there I married TSgt Rick Preuss, we divorced a few years later I really miss Spain and wish I had never left. Looking for anyone who might remember me especially Russ Metroz. I would love to hear from anyone who knew me back then. smile

Get out your handkerchiefs. Here's a Youtube video of Stone's Club, that appears to be from the 1980s. It is pretty much like what I remembered from 1970.

By the way, my post is not spam. Stone's, (no relation to me) was a popular night club in Madrid. Apparently it still is.

Mike Gaines Thursday, 5 September 2013 09:18
Looks like a bigger dance floor than what I remember. I was at TAB from DEc 74 - Dec 77 and visited Stones frequently. I found an old Stones Key Chain the other day. It's the number "One" designed like the American Flag. Anyone remember that???

Dave Stone Monday, 16 September 2013 11:43
I believe that the club's location has moved over the years. My membership card has its address as Villalar 8. I've found a ticket posted on line that looks like something patrons get when they pay a cover charge,maybe, that has the address as Grafito 21. Clearly Stone's moved. Using Google maps to locate the addresses, the original place has a different look but still under a hotel, which is what I remember.
