Was stationed at TJ from 3 Jan 83 - 6 Jan 86. Was assigned to the 401st AGS as a 462 until the F-16 A's and B's came in, then was transferred to the 613th AMU. Was a load crew chief, expediter, LSC and SLC team member. Lived in the Parque Catluna in TJ for the entire assignment. We had no HOLA or COLA because we were getting 300 pesetas to the dollars. Best overseas assignment I ever had - still talk about it to this day. big grin

I think I remember you Mark. I was also on the LSC crew. Do you remember Vince or Tony a black guy that owned and sold Alaskan Malamutes don't know if I spelled that right. Let me know

Pete Rhodes Monday, 16 January 2012 11:13
Steve - I believe you're speaking of Vince Townsend? Guy with a black Volvo, married to a Captain. He retired as a Chief a few years ago at Hill UT. And also 'Tony' may be Tony Petty.
I was there 82-85, mostly LSC 2 man on Vince's crew.

I was there at the same time you were - my dad was in ATC in the 1989th. His name was MSGT Kenneth W. Pearson. Ater Spain - we lived in Big Spring TX (Webb AFB), then he went to Utapao Thailand and from there back to Kelly AFB and retired after that. He passed away in 1994. I was eight when we moved to Spain and we lived in Royal Oaks. I have many fond memories of that time. I did locate one person you might remember. He cut some records when he was over there and had a hit in the US prior to being stationed at Torrejon. His name is Joe Bennett and lives in North Carolina, I think. He is still alive - you can find him on the internet.

I was surprised to learn that you had left Spain. I think I had learned about that in the late 90s. My last trip to Spain was in 1986 when I was on flight status with the 964 AWACS and we worked an exercise with the 401 and Spanish Air Force and Navy. If you run into Carlos Alcantara while you are in San Antonio, give him my greetings and enjoy a glass of wine together.

Noticed last post was like 3 years ago...hoping this finds you in good health. All in all I enjoyed my time at TJ and to say the least twas very interesting. I retired in 1991 and now living in Dunnellon Florida. Remember your days in Demand processing and then the F16 Ready Team.

I was stationed at Torrejon from Dec 67 to Dec 70. I was a Medic in the 401st Hospital. My last 2 years I mostly worked the Emergency Room, however, I did spend some time as an "Independent Medic" out with the Communications squadrons out on the Baleric Islands and up in the Pyrrenes Mountains.

Met my wife, Joyce, @ Torrejon. She was a dependent and had just graduated my the base High School in 1970.

Hola John,
We were both stationed at 1989Comm Sq nearly the same time. I was there from 1/1968 - 7/1973. I worked at NCMO & the Telephone Exchange. I am sure we ran into each other on base, or at Stone's in Madrid.

Wow this takes me back to the stone age, lol.
I was an A/2c. dont remember the squadron number but it was the motor pool.
I was there before they built the base staying at the general Isamo building in Madrid.
Not sure if I remember the dates but it was about July 1956 to sept 58.
I was assinged to the motor pool as a driver.
I really liked being assinged to Madrid and later got to live on the new base.
One of my all time memories was driving the OD and a LT pilot to his 101 Voodo and watching the take off as the OD had said to him to get it on when he took off.
Let me tell you that Voodo was impresive to say the least.
I hope someone from the 50s errra replys to me.
Heck maybe there all gone, Do you think? lol.
Happy trails to all you fly boys and Gals, Darrell (DEE) Warner

Hey gang!

I was stationed at TJ from 1984 to 1988. I worked in P&S for the 612th AMU, and then 3 years in the DCM staff, doing TCTO's and working in Wing maintenance and flight scheduling.

TJ was BY FAR the finest assignment in the whole of the AF- we miss EVERYONE we knew there very much! Googling maps of the area show how much it's changed. We hope to visit there again when we retire!

I arrived at TJ in Nov 74 and went pcs in Apr 81. I was a Security Policeman on the Ramp and loved it! It was espceially interesting when Gen. Fanco was alive and observed the transition from dictator to monarchy. Spent many hours at the "Rib House." Any x sp's out there drop me a line.
